60SMR: 3:10 to Yuma

image Just so you know, 60SMR = 60 Second Movie Review. Warning!!! Spoilers ahead.

I’m a sucker for westerns. If Silverado or Open Range comes on TNT or AMC, that’s it. I’m done. I’ll cancel plans to watch those to the end (that’s an exaggeration, mind you. I’m trying to make a point).

Unfortunately, there’s one thing Silverado and Open Range has that 3:10 doesn’t. A happy ending. 3:10 is a great western with a fine story and characters I not only related to but became endeared to which is a testament to the script and the director’s abilities.

I wanted to see Christian Bale deliver Russell Crowe to the prison train (the 3:10 to Yuma) so he could get the money promised him (if he delivered Crowe) to save his ranch. Only one part is accomplished, though, and all I can say is, 3:10‘s ending is a sad one.

Don’t get me wrong. Get some popcorn and curl up on the couch. This movie is a very worthy rental.

When 3:10 to Yuma ends up on TNT in a couple years, I’ll watch it the first time it’s on. But only that once.

Have you seen 3:10 to Yuma? If so, what did you think?

Get your fill of fun stuff on my tumblog

You may have noticed I’m not posting as many funny videos, links, stories, etc. right here on my main blog. Instead, I’ve moved all that goodness over to my tumblog (the address is shawnw.tumblr.com), which you can visit by clicking here.

A tumblog is more of a quick hit kind of thing rather than a full-on blog. So, if you want to be sure you stay up to date with the good stuff, there’s three ways to do it.

1. Click here to go to my tumblog and bookmark it. Visit it often.

2. Click here for my tumblog’s RSS feed.

3. Click here to get my tumblog updates via e-mail.

Isn’t that easy? So, pick which one suits you and go with it. You won’t regret it.

And, just so you won’t be disappointed, and because you’re already here, check out this Xbox 360 ad that never made it to TV but I sorely wish it would have.

The culprit

image For years our hot water pressure has stunk. More than that, we’d only have a few minutes of hot water in the shower before it’d begin to dwindle and we’d have to dial back the cold to ensure we kept getting hot water.

"But Shawn, why didn’t you fix it years ago?" Welcome to my life. :)

Anyway, last Saturday, Dad and I took out the old hot water heater (the drain plug at the bottom broke so we had to manhandle that thing outside with 30 gallons of water in it. Not fun) and installed a new hot water heater.

After we got the old hot water heater outside we decided we were going to use the old hot and cold fittings because they still appeared to be in good shape. We torqued them off and when Dad reached in to clean out the fitting that was on the hot water side, he stopped. He just stared into the fitting. Under my breath, I uh-oh’d.

French Freerunners who like soccer

Rockin’ it here at LIA (also known as Lubbock International Airport in West Texas) getting ready to head home. I’d had the video below on my InstaPaper for awhile but just got to watch it via the free wifi here. Won’t be so lucky in DFW since they’re a Tmobile hotspot. :(

That being said, if somebody wants to hit me up with their Tmobile userid/pass so I can get some wonderful wifi during my 3-hour layover, hit up my contact page and shoot me an email, I’ll check it with my phone while I’m there.

The video may claim that these guys are soccer freaks but I think they’re more like freerunner savate geniuses (I know, the video label says capoeira but whatev) who can kick a soccer ball like it’s nobody’s business.

Watch and enjoy. Thanks to el clinto for the linkage.
