Welcome to the first part in our RSS article series entitled RSS can make your life easier. The purpose of this article series is to get you comfortable with what RSS is and how to use it. Google calls their RSS reader “Your inbox for the web” and I feel this is the perfect way to describe RSS. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

We had a little impromptu NYE bash at Scot’s last night where we jammed out to some Guitar Hero II and ate plenty of food that was flatout bad for us.
As 2006 waned, Jeff (who’d been up since the wee hours Sunday and had been at church since 6:30 a.m.) decided he’d had enough and fell asleep in the chair closest to the television (that’s right, Jeff was snoozing to the soothing sounds of such songs as Shout at the Devil and Mother!), which was a bad idea. He had a pillow thrown at him (which he put to good use, as you can see here) and a teddy bear stuffed under his arm (again, put to good use).
At this point, it was too good an opportunity to pass up NOT to take a quick pic. So’s… I did. And now, you get to share in the fun, too.
Just so it’s clear that I’m not singling anyone out, you can check out a pic of me kissing Santa at the eXchange Musician’s Christmas party by clicking the link below.

…or so she says. She’s always been adamant that she does not snore, and will argue if you try to imply otherwise.
Now, I snore (ask Scot about why he thinks I snore) and will occasionally wake my wife up, but for the most part, I don’t snore (too often). When my wife snores, it doesn’t really bother me. I can usually sleep through it (quite often I’ve fallen asleep to her little rumbles) as she’s not a chainsaw snorer. Her snores are usually more what you’d think a sleepy Pekinese would sound like.
Except for Tuesday night. Wendy was feeling pretty terrible Tuesday night, and after eating Christmas dinner leftovers at Mom and Dad’s I brought her home, and she immediately grabbed a blanket and fell asleep on the couch.
I was doing my thing around the house when I heard something louder than a Pekinese snoring coming from the couch. I went into the living room and found Wendy seriously sawing logs. Loud. I finally had the opportunity to prove to her that she did, in fact, snore.
So, I recorded it.
My cell phone has a voice recorder dealio built in, so I enabled it and held my phone right next to her face. The light from the inside screen was pretty bright, so I had to lean over the couch all contorted to be sure she didn’t wake from me recording her non-snoring.
Of course, I had to gloat after she woke up and let her listen to herself. While she didn’t outright deny it, I still think she’s skeptical. She did ask later in the evening, “was that really me?”
Yes, Wendy. That was really you.
I’ll try to get the audio moved to MP3 and posted here for your enjoyment this weekend. :)

Below is a trailer for a new movie coming out next March called 300. Here’s some history of the event so you can have a better idea of what’s going on:
In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks delayed the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. A small force led by King Leonidas of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes I could pass. The Persians succeeded in defeating the Greeks but sustained heavy losses, disproportionate to those of the Greeks. A local resident named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks, revealing a mountain path that led behind the Greek lines. Dismissing the rest of the army, King Leonidas stayed behind with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespian volunteers. Though they knew it meant their own deaths, they secured the retreat of the other Greek forces.
The losses of the Persian army alarmed Xerxes. When his navy was later defeated at Salamis he fled Greece leaving only part of his force to finish the conquest of Greece. It was defeated at the Battle of Plataea. However, historical records of the period are notoriously biased or inaccurate and the real number of casualties will never truly be known.
Frank Miller, one of the most celebrated graphic novelists of our time, converted the story of the Battle of Thermopylae into a graphic novel (think several comic books in one large single issue) which was critically received.
A majority of the movie’s scenes are direct translations of the panels in the graphic novel, so you’re seeing the comic book “come alive,” as it were.
There’s a couple scenes of naughtiness (they’re very brief) but the overall art style and direction this movie is taking has vaulted it to number one most anticipated movie on my list. Enjoy the 2:30 trailer.
