Stop trying to change the world

stop-sign

What would happen if the church (the church = you and I, not a building) stopped trying to block legislation, stopped protesting, stopped persecuting every category of person it feels is “sinful,” stopped keeping all of its money for itself, (I could go on and on)…

…and started loving our neighbor?

What if we stopped worrying about the world, and each of us simply focused on our immediate sphere of influence?

The world’s population: nearly 7 billion. The Christian population? 1 billion.

We each have 7 friends we can talk to about Jesus, right?

Christians, it’s not you or I that changes the heart of those far from the Creator.

We need to get over our egos and realize it’s Jesus that changes hearts. The Christ, the savior of the world, the word made man, he does the work. It’s just that sometimes, He chooses to do it through us.

We are to be messengers of the gospel, the Good News. We are to carry the glorious message of our salvation to the world. It’s a message unparalleled by anything created by our hands.

It’s time to stop broadcasting our message, and start broadcasting His message.

Amen?

Seriously though. This is perfectly worded. While we spend MILLIONS boycotting and advertising against the bookstore that sells porn. (To put them out of business, thus, leaving people, who need jobs, jobless, so they can't feed their family, and the porn addicts will just go to another store, and the multi-million dollar corporation will just have to find a different location, but I digress)There is a billboard in Tennessee that is privately paid for, that is a picture of the trade centers, and it says something about God's Country, and how racial profiling could have prevented 'this'. It enrages me, but the more I think about it, the more it breaks my heart, because that money, could've gone to something. I don't know what. but something. People who are NOT in a relationship with Christ who drive by that, probably don't have the best example of Christ's love from that billboard…What I'm saying is, if we spend as much energy, time, and money loving as we (myself included) *seem* to hating, I think the world could change contagiously. It's our calling to shine the light, and lately I don't feel that much. Maybe it's just my cynicism, but seriously. My heart hurts daily thinking about this stuff… just not as nicely worded as you put it. I love you man.

Exactly what we are talking about at Maryland Community Church this Sunday (10 and 6) as we look at Acts 2!

C'mon man there is very little political power in loving people. Just think what you can gain by aligning with political parties, use fear to manipulate, use guilt to shame, generate war rhetoric to fire up your base….those are good ways to maintain control and move an agenda forward.Ol' Screwtape did know a thing or two.
